Non è necessario essere un blockbuster per essere un buon film; quando si trattano argomenti attualissimi e scottanti, poi, forse le due cose sono incompatibili.
Infatti, il cast non è stellare in senso hollywoodiano ma sostanziale: Forest Whitaker e Andy Garcia sono due pezzi da novanta e hanno dimostrato in carriera di privilegiare la qualità.
Una multinazionale compie una strage di civili in Ecuador per massimizzare i profitti, andando oltre il sopportabile. Quando la faccenda diventa incontenibile, il redento Jack Begosian (Garcia) va a salvare il testimone-chiave Francisco Francis (Whitaker) ospitandolo, dopo mille pericoli, nel suo programma d'inchiesta radiofonico nel liberale Canada.
I buoni e i cattivi sono divisi da un confine netto ma i personaggi non sono affatto banali; anzi, quasi tutti sono sfumati nelle zone grigie dell'esistenza, quelle dove nessuno è completamente pulito.
Ah! Se Maggio imparasse a sparare come Begosian e Torrance!

A corporation carries out a massacre of civilians in Ecuador to maximize profits, going beyond the bearable. When things become overwhelming, the redeemed Jack Begosian (Garcia) goes to save the key-witness Francis Francisco (Whitaker) hosting it, after one thousand dangers, in his radio-inquiry broadcast in liberal Canada.
The Good ones and the Bad others are separated by a sharp boundary but characters are not at all trivial; indeed, almost all are shaded in gray areas of life, where no one is completely innocent.
Ah! If Maggio could learn to shoot like Begosian and Torrance!
